The Ideal Cut Diamond Engagement Ring - What is it and When Was it First Cut?

There are many different diamond cuts available to buyers these days. No matter what shape or style of jewelry shoppers are hoping to acquire, they are sure to find it if they shop around a bit. One specialty type of diamond is the ideal cut. An ideal cut has its own unique and beautiful qualities which will be discussed below.

What Is an Ideal Cut Diamond?

The ideal cut is a gemstone which has ideal proportions, symmetry and polish. The main purpose of cutting the diamond to the finished shape and style is to create the most beautiful diamond possible which will radiate exquisite light. The grade of the diamond will be a zero cut grade if graded by the AGS and Excellent cut if graded by the GIA, which means that it was cut in order to produce the most accurate cut possible along with the desire to produce the most brilliant results.

This is a high standard cut of diamond and therefore is more difficult to find than some of its alternative diamond counterparts.

When Was this Cut First Produced?

The formula for producing an ideal cut diamond was created by a Belgian mathematician named Marcel Tolkowsky. He created the formula in 1919. Due to the results which were achieved via cutting a diamond in this manner, Tolkowsky knew that it indeed was an "ideal" cut.

Cost and Availability of an Ideal Cut Diamond

Due to the exact measures which it takes to produce a precise cut diamond, the cost is usually higher and the availability is usually less when compared with other types of diamond cuts. It is stated that less than 1% of diamonds are cut according to the Toskowsky formula.

This makes the availability low when compared with other diamond types. As for the price, due to the detail and process which these gemstones go through, the price is usually higher on this particular type of diamond than other diamond cuts.

Reasons to Choose an Ideal Cut Diamond

There are a few good reasons to choose precise cut. First, it is a brilliant type of gemstone due to its shine and sparkling nature. Secondly, since it is less common than other types of diamonds, choosing an ideal cut stone provides you with a unique style of diamond. Lastly, this type of gemstone is a quality diamond sure to stand the test of time. These are just some of the wonderful reasons to buy an ideal cut for yourself or a loved one.
