Some new parents do not know what to expect when they are asked to attend an orientation class for newly arriving students. They think that the back to school orientation day will be long and quite tedious and take up a lot of time. They might choose to ignore the orientation and find out later about things that were discussed.
If the parents had chosen to go to the orientation, they might know what the school administration expects from their child. They might have learned that the school board adopted a uniform policy during the summer months and that every student is expected to be wearing one on the first day of school. These parents had to beg a uniform from friends because the stores in the local area had sold out.
The back to school orientation for students entering the seventh grade was very informative for parents and students alike. The students learned that they would begin changing classes that year and that they would have a locker assigned for the first time since they began going to school. The parents learned that the students would be tested for drugs at any time during the year and that these drug tests would require them to pay extra school fees.
Every teacher attends the orientation day festivities. The school might have forms available that would allow kids to sign up for the football and baseball teams. These team positions usually go pretty fast and parents have found that filling one out on orientation day gives their child a better chance at being selected because the application was received earlier than other students at school who chose not to attend orientation day activities.
The parents really appreciated the extra low prices that were offered on all school books sold while they were at the orientation day meetings. The extra discounts allowed parents to afford athletic gear and athletic jackets that would not have been possible for many months to come due to the cost of enrolling all of the children at school at the same time. The parents really were lucky that they chose to go because they got to know quite a few other parents that they could discuss things with throughout the year.
Back to school orientation days are the perfect time for students to meet the teachers that they will have in every course they are taking. The students might have a better idea of what the class will teach them at various points throughout the year. These students also have the opportunity to be inquisitive and ask questions about the class field trips that are planned.
Parents like to meet teachers too to find out how they can help out during the school year. Some teachers need extra supplies and others might really need a small refrigerator for the class room. Some classes need room mothers that will be in charge of class parties and the trips that their child is so interested in finding out about. Orientation days make going back to school easier and more enjoyable for everyone concerned.
