Fashion Basics For Men To Look Their Best

When you know the basics when it comes to men's fashion, getting dressed and looking your fashion best can be easy and effortless.

Always remember that certain patterns can flatter you or can be unflattering for your image. Wide and horizontal stripes can create a sort of broadening effect. On the other hand, vertical stripes create a thinner image or look. Fabrics with no patterns or with small patterns can give emphasis to being thin.

When it comes to fabric, bear in mind that bulky sweaters, flannel, tweed and other heavy fabrics create the impression of a heavy body. Cotton, linen, twill and other light to medium weight textiles create a slimming effect and can visually take off pounds from your look.

If you want to look taller and thinner, wear clothes that fit just right. Wearing clothes that are either too loose or too tight can add pounds to your look. Solid colors would work best for a thinner and taller effect. Your colors from head to toe should preferably be in the same color range or family. Stiff fabrics should be avoided. Stripes should be limited to those designs which are fine or close together. Do not wear suspenders with button clips but instead opt for the button loops. Avoid busy and outrageous patterns and go for vertical stripes. Opt for dark tones and smooth fabrics. Trousers should be worn on the natural waist area and not below it. Your tie's width should be medium and its tip should touch the waistband. Jackets and sweaters with elastic bottoms should be avoided as this can create a heavy look. Minimize accessories.

If you want to look heavier and shorter, wear bold colors and mix and match separates with contrasting colors. Jackets and sweaters with elastic bottoms can make the fabric bunch up on the waist area to give you a heavy look. Limit the usage of vertical stripes that are narrow, pointed lapels and very narrow ties. Wear those with styling details or patch pockets. Layer your clothes. Choose a top coat made of huskier material. As much as possible limit the use of a single color from head to foot and trousers in deep pleats should be worn.

Always remember that what's important in finding the right clothes is not your fashion sense or style, rather it is being aware of your body type and knowing which types of clothes, styles and designs will best complement it.
